Where Do I Start?

We know that shopping for a new appliance can be an overwhelming task, but we are dedicated to making it as painless as possible for our clients. That’s why we’ve broken up our online store into appliance type and gas type. Not sure where to start? Here are some of the major differences between stoves, inserts and fireplaces and between gas, wood and pellet fuels.

Inserts VS Stoves VS Fireplaces

The biggest difference between fireplaces and inserts is that fireplaces include a firebox and a face or “hearth” and are typically built into the home, while inserts are essentially fireboxes that are designed to be retrofitted into an existing fireplace and connected to an existing chimney. Stoves, on the other hand are typically free-standing, and may or may not require a chimney.

Gas VS Wood VS Pellet

Wood has always been a valuable fuel source because it’s easy to come by, it doesn’t rely on electricity, and it provides a lot of beauty and a lot of warmth. Unfortunately, there is a bit more maintenance required with wood-burning appliances, as you’ll need to possibly chop, season, haul and store wood, and regularly clean out ash.

Gas has become increasingly popular because it is incredibly low maintenance and easy to use. With a gas appliance, you’ll simply flip a switch to turn your appliance on and off, which is great for those with busy schedules. You also won’t have to worry about storing fuel or cleaning out ash.

Pellet fuel is great for those that want less maintenance than wood, and yet are still looking to make use of a renewable resource. Pellets are made of wood waste (sawdust shavings), and once loaded into the hopper, are pretty much hassle-free. They also require less storage space than wood.

Propane Alternatives

If you use propane to heat your home, you’ve no doubt noted the serious shortage we’ve been having here in Michigan and throughout the Midwest. Although you can turn your thermostat down a little to conserve fuel, it can be pretty tough to do when the temperatures outside are consistently below freezing. But what are your alternatives?

Well, here at Clean Sweeps of Michigan, we offer several fireplaces, inserts and stoves that rely on other types of fuel, like wood, gas and pellets. These renewable and reliable fuel sources can help you keep your family warm, no matter how cold our winters get. Whether you’re shopping for your first stove or you’re looking to convert from your propane unit to a wood-burning, gas-burning or pellet-burning appliance, we can help!
